Trustees with Financial Experience
Purpose
- To act as a Trustee and Non-Executive Director of Care & Repair
General responsibilities
- To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- To contribute actively to the work of Care & Repair Edinburgh. In particular Trustees are responsible for shaping and endorsing the strategic direction, setting overall policy, evaluating organisational performance and supporting the staff team to achieve their agreed goals and objectives.

- To ensure that Care & Repair Edinburgh takes steps to protect and manage the property of the charity including proper investment of charity funds.
It is anticipated that the duties of Trustees are likely to take about 1 day a month and applicants must be able to accommodate this. The Board currently meets 4 times a year, February, May, August and November, in Edinburgh.
These posts are not remunerated but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Trustees should not have any significant interest in any organisation that conflicts directly with the goals of Care & Repair Edinburgh and all potential conflicts of interest should be declared, including at each Board meeting.

Qualities, skills and experience
We are seeking Trustees with the following:
- Able to demonstrate a commitment our vision statement: Care and Repair Edinburgh helps older and vulnerable people to stay independent, comfortable, safe and secure in their own homes for as long as they want to and can.
- An ability to address key/difficult issues in safeguarding the above
- A clear link with Edinburgh – the community within which we offer our services.
To support the effective governance of the CRE Board of Trustees we are seeking to recruit up to two trustees with
Financial experience. They will support the Board to:
- Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation.
- Make fellow committee members aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them.
- Regularly report the financial position at committee meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc).
Candidates will bring:
- Knowledge and experience of current finance practice relevant to voluntary organisations.
- Knowledge of financial management and oversight.
- Good financial analysis skills.
- Ability to communicate complex financial data clearly.
