Imagine, as an older person, not having enough money to pay for new light bulbs or being stuck in hospital desperate to get home but not able to afford the key safe you need to be supported at home.
Sadly, there are many older people in Edinburgh who are living in unsafe conditions because they can’t afford to replace necessary items or make adaptations to reduce risks and hazards.
Care and Repair Edinburgh have set up a Hardship Fund to provide items such as free light bulbs, key safes, small electrical appliances and door locks for older people who are on pension credit. As a result of generous donations from funders we have been able to provide these every month to those most in need. But our Hardship Fund is running low and we are asking for your help.
You can give a little to help us provide much-needed repairs.
- A donation of £7 could enable us to buy a supply of light bulbs for an older person in Edinburgh. Lack of light is one of the main reasons for trips and falls in the home.
- A donation of £25 could help to buy a new kettle or a toaster to replace items that have failed our appliance testing in the homes of older people.
- A donation of £50 could allow us to supply and fit new front and back door locks in an older person’s home, making it more safe and secure .
- A donation of £85 could enable us to provide a free key safe to an older person so they can get the support they need at home by allowing carers and visitors access.
Please donate today
