Our small repairs service uses a qualified joiner to carry out work in your home. There is a free assessment, then a minimal labour charge plus the cost of any materials for this service.
Jobs include fitting door locks, chains and spy-holes to make you feel more secure at home.
We can also fit internal grab and hand rails, bath and shower aids as well as internal ramps for wheelchair access to make getting around your home more safe and comfortable.
We can replace pulley ropes, sash cords and window sills as well as completing small window and door repairs.
Funding Available
Some funding may be available for essential repairs that help people remain safe, independent, and living in their own home.
Funding may be available for people who receive Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit), or Universal Credit (UC) with the Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity (LCWRA) element. Please note that you must receive both UC and LCWRA. Universal Credit on its own does not qualify.
Please be aware that funding is limited and is generally intended for work that supports a person’s ability to continue living safely in their home. Funding is not normally available for cosmetic, decorative, or non-essential repairs.
What does this mean?
Universal Credit (UC) is a benefit for people on a low income or who are out of work.
LCWRA (Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity) is an additional element within UC for people whose health condition or disability means they are not required to work or prepare for work.
To be eligible, you must be receiving the LCWRA element as part of your UC award.
How to provide proof
You can provide proof in any of the following ways:
- A screenshot or photo from your Universal Credit journal showing the LCWRA element in your monthly breakdown.
- A recent UC award letter that clearly lists the LCWRA element.
- A Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit) award letter.
- Recent official DWP correspondence confirming entitlement.
The document must show both the recipient’s name and the qualifying benefit.
Please note: Meeting the benefit criteria does not automatically guarantee funding. Each request is assessed individually, and funding is prioritised for repairs and adaptations that help someone remain living safely and independently at home.

What does it cost?
There is a minimal labour charge plus the cost of materials. We can give you quotes in advance so you won’t get a surprise. Please note we don’t charge for call outs and don’t charge travel time. On average, people pay around 50% of the cost of the work with 50% paid by our funders including City of Edinburgh Council.
