- Care & Repair Edinburgh: Trustee Role
Purpose
- To act as a Trustee and Non-Executive Director of Care & Repair Edinburgh
OVERVIEW
Care and Repair Edinburgh (CRE) is a voluntary organisation helping those over 60 years of age and/or anyone with a disability, to repair, improve or adapt their homes to enable them to live as independently and as safely as possible.
We’ve existed for almost 40 years and complete over 6,000 jobs every year in homes across the city.
Care and Repair Edinburgh offer the following services to anyone aged 60+ or has a disability and pays council tax to Edinburgh City Council:
- Adaptations
- Easiaccess
- Electrical
- Fire Alarms
- Grabrails
- Handyperson
- Joinery
- Keysafe
- Trade Referrals
- Volunteer Handyperson
General responsibilities
- To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- To contribute actively to the work of Care & Repair Edinburgh. Trustees are responsible for shaping and endorsing the strategic direction, setting overall policy, evaluating organisational performance and supporting the staff team to achieve their agreed goals and objectives.
- To safeguard the name, aims and the values of the organisation.
- To provide oversight of the charity’s finances, and ensure that Care & Repair Edinburgh takes steps to protect and manage the property of the charity, including proper investment of charity funds.
The Board currently meets four times a year in Edinburgh: February, May, August and November.
Trustees are not remunerated but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Applicants should not have any significant interest in any organisation that conflicts directly with the goals of Care & Repair Edinburgh and all potential conflicts of interest should be declared, including at each Board meeting.
TRUSTEE SPECIFICATION
We are seeking Trustees with the following:
- Able to demonstrate a commitment our vision statement: Care and Repair Edinburgh helps older and vulnerable people to stay independent, comfortable, safe and secure in their own homes for as long as they want to and can.
- An ability to address key/difficult issues in safeguarding the above commitment.
- A clear link with Edinburgh – the community within which we offer our services.
- We hope to increase the diversity of our Board and balance experience and enthusiasm across our group of Trustees.
To support the effective governance of the CRE Board of Trustees we are seeking to recruit trustees with experience in the third sector, housing, financial management, or project management/planning roles.
Currently, we are looking for candidates who have experience of:
- Third Sector
- Housing
- Trades
- Fundraising
- Marketing/PR/Communications
- Estates Management
If you believe you could add real value to our board table but don’t meet some or all of the criteria we have laid out, we would still love to hear from you. Please highlight for us the value you would bring in your application.
We also welcome candidates who do not have board experience. Full induction and training will be provided.
