Minor adaptations

We can help you make minor adaptations to your home so you can get in and out of your home safely and can enjoy your facilities.

Jobs include fitting door locks, chains and spy-holes to make you feel more secure at home. We can also fit grab rails, both inside and outside your home as well as ramps for wheelchair access to make getting around your home more safe and comfortable. Many people ask for grab rails on stairs in the garden so that they can enjoy the summer sunshine.

What does it cost?

Minor adaptations are charged at £32 for the first hour and £13 per half hour thereafter plus the cost of materials. We can give you quotes in advance so you won’t get a surprise. Please note we don’t charge for call outs and don’t charge travel time. On average, people pay around 50% of the cost of the work with 50% paid by our funders including City of Edinburgh Council

What people say

Telephone call was dealt with promptly and advice given. It was reassuring to use a contractor that was recommended

It is so reassuring to know the trade people are vetted. Also, as always, the tradesman who came did a class job.

The hand rail at our back doorstep is just what we needed. The work was carried out promptly and efficiently by a pleasant worker. We are totally satisfied.

Calum is a very personable and competent young man. He listened carefully to the problem and fixed it. Can’t ask for more.

Very efficient service both on the telephone and by the joiner who came by to fit the keysafe. very impressed.

The key box was placed exactly where we wanted it to be put, with a maximum of efficiency and a minimum of fuss. You run a very good service which is greatly appreciated.

Alan is a gentleman. I’ve had him before and found him to be very helpful and willing to go the extra mile, by asking is there anything else I need done. This is an excellent service

Response from Care & Repair was prompt. Melvyn (volunteer) was caring and competent. A delightful man actually. I am so pleased that Care & Repair exists!
