Gift of Shares
Donating shares is a tax‑efficient way to support Care & Repair Edinburgh and make a real difference to the lives of older people across the city.
If you hold a small number of shares that are difficult or uneconomical to sell, ShareGift can help. ShareGift aggregates and sells these shares and, if you wish, donates the proceeds directly to Care & Repair Edinburgh. They can also accept larger shareholdings (over £500), which are usually sold immediately. There is no cost to you or to the charity.
Alternatively, you can transfer shares directly to Care & Repair Edinburgh through your stockbroker or investment platform. In most cases, this allows you to claim income tax relief and exemption from capital gains tax.
How your donation helps
Your generosity provides practical, life‑changing support for older people in Edinburgh:
- £4 helps us buy and fit a lightbulb, bringing light and safety to a dark room
- £40 covers a weekly parking permit for Andrew, our Keysafe Fitter, who typically fits around 45 keysafes each week, helping older people return home safely after a hospital stay and making access easier for carers and family members
- £140 can fund the installation of an external handrail, allowing an older person to safely access their garden or manage steps
- £400 enables us to provide Dementia Awareness and First Aid training for four of our volunteers
